The goal of The Head section of our program is to cultivate knowledge.
This initial phase focuses on grounding disciples in biblical foundations and understanding biblical doctrines, helping them form a well-rounded view of God, the world, themselves, and others.
The aim here is to ensure that participants not only learn about the Bible but also understand its application in the modern world, creating a strong framework for their spiritual journey.
The Head module will provide an understanding of biblical truths to live and defend the Gospel, through the following courses:
Truth That Transforms
This course delves into the core doctrines of the Bible, emphasizing how these truths are not only historical but also transformative for individuals and communities today. Students will explore key theological concepts such as salvation, the nature of God, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the authority of Scripture. The course is designed to help participants see the relevance of these doctrines in shaping a life of faith that actively influences personal behavior and societal norms.
How to Study the Bible
Aimed at equipping students with effective tools and methodologies for Bible study, this course covers various approaches such as inductive study, exegesis, and hermeneutics. Participants will learn how to interpret Scripture contextually and apply its teachings wisely. The course also encourages developing a consistent personal Bible study routine, fostering a lifelong habit of seeking wisdom and guidance from the Scriptures.
Biblical Worldview
This course challenges students to frame their understanding of the world through the lens of biblical teachings. It addresses topics such as ethics, philosophy, human nature, and the purpose of life, all from a biblical perspective. Participants will be encouraged to critically assess contemporary cultural norms and societal values, contrasting them with biblical principles to develop a coherent and holistic approach to living out their faith in every aspect of life.
The Art of Defending the Gospel
Focused on apologetics, this course prepares students to defend their faith intellectually and respectfully in conversations with skeptics and seekers. Covering historical, philosophical, and scientific defenses of the Christian faith, the course equips participants with the knowledge to address common objections to Christianity. It also emphasizes the importance of combining intellectual arguments with a compassionate and understanding demeanor to effectively communicate the truth of the Gospel in a pluralistic society.
As each course is completed, members will further develop themselves as disciple makers.
Through the Head Courses, each Sojourner Discipleship member is expected to achieve specific outcomes, including:
✓ Encourages deep reflection on the intersection of biblical doctrines with current issues, personal beliefs, and cultural contexts.
✓ Equips participants with critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret biblical texts effectively.
✓ Fosters a comprehensive understanding of God, the world, themselves, and others, establishing a robust foundation for their spiritual journey.
Additionally, the Head courses emphasizes the development of practical skills that enhance the effectiveness of participants in various aspects of life:
✓ Teaches participants to articulate their beliefs clearly and defend their faith thoughtfully.
✓ Prepares participants for engaging both within and outside the Christian community.
✓ Ensures participants not only understand the theological underpinnings of their faith but also can practically apply these principles in daily life and interactions.
These skills are integral for participants to serve effectively in their families, small groups, and broader communities.
By integrating these elements, the Sojourner Discipleship program at Journey Community Church not only addresses the need for a structured discipleship program but also ensures that each participant is equipped to lead and serve in a manner that embodies the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
This comprehensive approach ensures that the church not only grows in number but also in spiritual maturity and impact.
